Practicing emotional intelligence as we move to level 3
It felt like a really big thing seeing the clock tick over past midnight and into level 3. It’s been such a strange time and one which has been a test of our emotional intelligence. How did you do in level 4 ?
For me I enjoyed dipping into lots of coaching resources, thinking of this as a time to step into greater self management and leadership. I took greater charge of my finances and also started to get into a practice of gratitude again. Level 4 brought a new sense of pride as well as appreciation for being in the healthcare field.
i so felt for people not able to work during this time and who were at home with kids. Whatever challenges you have had so far though I hope you are able to reflect just on you. The challenge is always to think of life as happening for you rather than to you. You are always the hero in the story.
I feel it’s quite interesting as we move to level 3. It was good in my view that this was delayed until after ANZAC day. I feel now is a key time to even increase our level of emotional intelligence and really just hold the reigns in well.
It’s great we’ve got here and now we have a bit more freedom and are able to do more it’s almost a bigger test to just stay settled and to be responsible.
I remember in my study around Entrepreneurship and it spoke about emotional intelligence and how this is the most important factor in overall life success. There was a test done referred to as the marshmello test which measured emotional intelligence and was shown to be significantly correlated with overall success in different areas of life later on.
In this test children were given a marshmello and were told that they could eat it straight away or if they held on for a certain period of time without eating it they would get another marshmello. It was those who were able to wait (therefore higher emotional intelligence) who showed the greater life success.
So now is a time to exercise this for ourselves. We have our one marshmello… which is like our bit of freedom we have right now. It’s about learning to be with and be happy with that for the time being. Then as we are patient more will be on the way.
Know that in doing this you are going to become stronger, more self sufficient… and what else are lifes challenges other than to make us stronger versions of ourselves. Wishing you all a happy and peaceful first day of level 3.
All the best
Phil 🙂
