Reflections on Gandhi quote post
Any thoughts and reflections on Gandhi’s quote?
There’s the famous Gandhi quote often popularised and in fact on a poster in my casual work of ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’. I was reflecting on this and what it meant to me. I wanted to share then see what it means to you. As I thought about it more it did seem to resonate deeper than it did on first coming across it. It actually really came into my consciousness again as I have been working on my morning routine and practicing an exercise of detachment then just working from a primary value. Although I have many to choose I did choose kindness. I know this is often a virtue Gandhi spoke of but one I had never chosen so much to work on and develop consciously.
I thought more about it though and with my niche of counselling work as I support people recovering from abuse and my constant study of narcissism and recovery, it is quite fitting that kindness links in for me as a virtue as I working on and which is a high value for me.
Although kindness I feel can seem simple and kind of a cop out and a bit not so intelligent I do feel it’s impact is profound when it is so true and sincere in the way Gandhi used it to cause such a revolution and change. I think too about one of my heroes Carl Rogers who speaks of the fully functioning person and the power of love to support growth and the exchange of love between people which supports that. Jesus Christs’ main teaching very much seems to be about love.
So I guess one of the changes I want to see in the world is for it to become kinder and is something I am working to practice. I also really love things like authenticity and integrity would be other close ones.
I wondered what other thoughts people had and any stories to share?
Have a great day everyone
